Founded in 1996, Hollywood Entertainment Museum (HEM) is an exceptional mix of culture and education. After outgrowing its home of 10 years on Hollywood Boulevard, the Board of Directors of the Museum decided to close that location and move into the next decade by broadening its mission to tell the story of Los Angeles at a new location in downtown and expanding its entertainment themed high school and after-school program--The Education Center for the Entertainment Arts-- inspiring and empowering at-risk youth to succeed. This program is one of the most successful in the country and serves as a global model that can be utilized by museums and art programs. It is this unique fusion of education, community and culture that grounds HEM in a deep sense of social responsibility and exemplifies the spirit of Los Angeles.
