Description: Hollywood Entertainment Museum celebrates film, television,
radio, the entertainment arts and Hollywood the place. The 33,000-square foot
Museum is a portal to the behind-the-scenes magic of entertainment, showcasing
interactive exhibits, memorabilia, special exhibitions, multi-screen video
presentations and a revealing backlot tour of the world's most dynamic industry.
The experience culminates in a visit to the original sets of Star Trek and
Cheers, and The X-Files, three of television's most popular series.
In 1997, Hollywood Entertainment Museum changed the paradigm of what a modern day museum can be by opening the Education Center for the Entertainment Arts, in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Office of Education's Division of Juvenile Court Community Schools and the Los Angeles County Probation Department. This unique fusion of a cultural institution with an educational institution allows the Museum to preserve and celebrate the achievements of the entertainment arts while grounding itself in a deep sense of social responsibility.
Highlights:
The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of: a six-minute multi-screen video presentation
by Academy Award-winner Chuck Workman. A kaleidoscope of images traces the
visual entertainment arts through film and television.
Hollywood in Miniature: a one-quarter-inch scale replica of Hollywood
finished in 1945 by Joe Pellkofer, a cabinetmaker, and 25 artists and craftsmen.
Max Factor Exhibit: When the Max Factor Museum closed, Hollywood Entertainment Museum was given the rare collection, which traces the evolution of makeup through exhibits, videos and photographs.
Foley Room: Discover the secrets of sound in film and television through video and a hands-on demonstration.
Star Trek: You don't have to be a Trekkie to delight in being beamed up to the Starship Enterprise, where you can explore the ship's bridge, sit in the captain's chair and meet the fearsome Klingons.
Cheers: Visit the very TV set where everybody knows your name. Visitors can sit on "Norm's" barstool and see clips featuring their favorite Cheers character.
The X-Files: Explore the extraterrestrial chaos on the actual set that was used as Agent Fox Mulder's office in the hit TV series "The X-Files."
Equipment from the early days of motion pictures, including a replica of an 1890s Kinetoscope, two historic Moviolas and a vintage Bell and Howell 35mm camera with its original support equipment.
A beastly exhibit of more than two dozen ghoulish and otherworldly effects and costume pieces from such films as "Planet of the Apes," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Star Trek IX: Insurrection."
Museum Programs: The Museum offers a variety of special programs and events for adults and children. These range from book signings to children's workshops, to lectures and performances, to exhibit openings and video presentations. These are often complimentary with Museum admission and to Museum members or available for a minimal fee.
Museum shop: Open to the public and to visitors during Museum hours, the
Museum Shop offers a variety of high-quality, distinctive items ranging from
books to apparel and from autographed memorabilia to souvenir items. Star
Wares, a retail outlet in the Shop, features film and television stars' costumes,
